My triathlete husband has been injured for the last 18 months and it’s been an interesting adjustment, mostly for him though, as I still have the kids, house and work to keep me busy. The thing that’s been the hardest for him is not being able to do what he loves most (running and triathlons) but luckily he’s found an alternative in mountain biking, which he enjoys with some of his friends. It’s funny though, I asked him the question about finding himself a hobby other than exercise just the other day and the response wasn’t overly enthusiastic!

Hi Christina. My husband’s always talked about mountain biking, but hasn’t taken the plunge yet. This is his second “slow” race season due to injury in the past 4 years, so I know he’s starting to wonder if someone’s trying to tell him something. But, I know he’s not ready to throw in the towel yet. It will depend on how this last round of plantar fasciitis works itself out.

I have not been a part of IM community for that long, but my BF has been competing for over 10 years now and he decided this year is his last… I wonder about some of the things you mentioned like him missing the sport, the exercise addiction, the free time he will finally have… Not sure if I am sad or happy about it all. Very mixed feelings…
Are you coming to Lake Placid this summer or…? Would have loved meeting you 🙂

Hi Anna. We won’t be at Lake Placid due to Carl’s injury. I would have loved to have met you, too. You’re always welcome to submit any other article that you’d like to write! I know I will miss the triathlon life even though I complain about it. I’ve met so many friends because of it and do enjoy going to most of the races and seeing how happy they make my husband!
