    This is a great reminder. I fall into the category of sometimes becoming obsessed with all the stats and numbers….but I run fartleks often with just perceived effort and not my HR monitor. Sometimes if I can’t get my HR up to where it should be it just ruins my attitude and I don’t have fun….and I forget that the workout is still beneficial to me and fun! Great post thanks for sharing.

      I think most tirathletes do get obsessed, Lindsay. I loved what Martin said, though. The person he talks about that lost his watch at Kona is Carl. Martin has been at this for many years and has had several very serious bike accidents, so he has a unique perspective.
